Library Lines – December 2016
Christmas books, DVDs and CDs are out! For Devotions and meditations look on top of the blue shelving in front of the children’s table. Children’s books, adult Christmas fiction, Christmas CDs and DVDs are on the blue wall shelving on your left in the Library. Do check them out!
In the news! Multiple wives and underage brides are in the news again with the ongoing trial in BC. If you haven’t read “Sister Wife” by Hrdlitschka, we have two copies in the library. It’s told from the points of view of 3 teens in a community similar to Bountiful — two have been brought up in the community — one accepting the way of life, and one questioning — and one a homeless girl from outside, who has been rescued and befriended by the community. Sister Wife is a compelling portrait of a community where the laws of the outside world are ignored and where individuality is punished.
Read more by and about Greta Vosper, the controversial United Church Minister who has been in the news over the last year as the Church struggled to decide whether or not a declared athiest can be a minister. The most recent issue of “The Observer” features the story and the decision made. We also have two of her books “With or without God : why the way we live is more important than what we believe” and “Amen : what prayer can mean in a world beyond belief“. Check them out and see what she has to say.
