St. Aidan’s is an Affirming Ministry of the United Church of Canada situated in suburban Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. (Map)
St. Aidan’s United Church has provided a spiritual home to many people since 1873. (History) Our congregation comes together to praise and serve God, to strengthen each other’s faith and to be a channel of God’s love. As we strive to show God’s love, we offer whatever help and encouragement we can to our community. Our services and programmes emphasize the importance of healing, learning and sharing our Christian faith.
While the central act of the Christian community is worship, the Spirit moves through St. Aidan’s folks to all kinds of activities outside of worship! Our congregation is made up of individuals who have recognized the incredible love of God and from that love create, give and bless the lives of others.
Values and Mission
Our Core Values are Hospitality, Inclusiveness, Spiritual Growth and Reaching Out.
Our Mission is Life-Changing Ministry with all through Jesus Christ.
After a year of prayer, exploration, study and reflection, in 2011 the congregation voted 80% in favour of adopting this statement of faith: ”We the congregation of St. Aidan’s United Church declare publicly our commitment to creating a community where all people, especially the marginalized, are welcomed and celebrated regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, age, mental or physical ability, gender, spiritual beliefs, ethnic or cultural background, marital status or economic circumstance…. We strive to live God’s vision of wholeness and as a sign that Christ’s community is one of acceptance and love for all people.” The congregation’s decision to become an Affirming Ministry means that St. Aidan’s considers itself committed to becoming a fully inclusive congregation.
What to Expect
St. Aidan’s is an open Christian community of faith that welcomes visitors and newcomers.
St. Aidan’s Sunday Worship Service is at 10:00 AM.
Music plays a big part in our worship service! We have a number of different musical groups and talented musicians who offer their gifts each week. The service features contemporary music, great hymns of our tradition, often a choral presentation, a variety of instrumentation and Sunday School for children.
Members of the congregation participate in a variety of ways during this service: doing readings, offering prayers and leading in singing. The mood of the service is celebratory.
Communion, a time for all who seek to follow Jesus to remember what has been given to them and what is theirs to give, is celebrated about once a month.
